If I look back, I am doomed, Dany told herself … but how could she not look back? I should have seen it coming. Was I so blind, or did I close my eyes willfully, so I would not have to see the price of power?

kingbranstark:

"…he wants to name her Lyanna but it’s too painful, too tragic and unsettling because his daughter won’t meet the same fate as his sister. He wants to name her Lyarra for his mother, but he can’t bear the thought of another Lyarra Stark walking the halls of Winterfell. So he names her Arya, for the grandmother he never knew but heard so much of. Because this child is special, this child is a Stark through and through".

A DIREWOLF is a close relative of the wolf, but larger and stronger. They are named after the real world direwolves, Pleistocene megafauna, which were larger than modern wolves (but not as large as portrayed in the books). Direwolves are extinct north of the wall, as they are a very large and dangerous predator, and people have probably hunted them out. A grey direwolf in a white field is the sigil of House Stark.
